The Handoff
The Bedroom Camera Needs a Wi-Fi Route, a Watcher, and a Rule. Install It Start to Finish.
Set up a bedroom camera from the first talk with your wife through the mount, the cable, and the first alert test, and settle who watches the feed and when it gets turned off.
A bedroom camera is one more machine in the room. It needs a route for its power, its signal, and its alerts before it needs a place on the wall. This guide walks the install from the first decision to the first alert test, so the camera is working when you need it and nobody has to guess who watches the feed.

Set the rules before you drill
Talk with your wife about the camera in plain words while she can still take part in the decision. Say what it sees, who can look at it, and whether it records sound. Write the rule on the day sheet: when the camera is on, when it is off, and who can switch it off. A camera does not replace a person in the room during a hard stretch, and the rule should say so.
Pick the mount spot with the feed in mind
Choose a spot that shows the bed, the path to the door, and the bathroom door if it can be seen from there. Avoid a spot that points at a bright window behind the bed. Before you drill, set the camera on a shelf or table in that spot, open the app on your phone, and check the live picture and the sound. Walk through the room while you watch, so you see what the camera misses.
Test the signal and the power
Check the Wi-Fi signal at the mount spot with your phone. A spot that drops the feed is a spot that will fail when you need it most. Find the nearest outlet or plan the cable route before you start. If the camera runs on a battery, write the charge schedule and name who charges it. Do not run a cord across the path she walks.
Mount it and route the cable
Mount the bracket into the framing or into the anchors that match your wall. Hold the camera in place, tighten, and then touch the bracket to check that it does not wobble. Run the cable along the wall edge, out of the path to the bathroom, and clip it in place. Keep the power adapter off the floor.
Set the alerts and test them
Name the phone that receives the alerts. If a relief person is coming in, pick a second phone for them. Turn on motion alerts and test one by walking into view. Confirm that the alert reaches both phones and that the notification says which camera sent it. Find out where recordings are stored and who can open them.
Hand the camera off in writing
Write the login, the camera name, the off switch, and the alert rule on the day sheet. Tell the relief person what the camera sees and what to do when an alert comes in. Change the password when someone leaves the household or a phone is lost. Check the mount and the cable again after the first week of use.
